Leading in Healthcare with Compassionate Strength through the COVID-19 crisis: Managing the Now, Preparing for the Future

On June 8th, VSVS will host a round table discussion between 4 of the world’s top coaches and HCA Gulf Coast Division Leadership titled:
Leading in Healthcare with Compassionate Strength through the COVID-19 crisis: Managing the Now, Preparing for the Future.
Time: 9-10 am CT

The purpose of this discussion is to try to understand the new challenges facing healthcare industry leaders in its current state. With burnout already a pandemic of its own in the industry, studies are showing that the emergence of COVID-19 with its unique and combined impact has managed to MAACU the effects of burnout (Magnify the factors influencing burnout, Amplify their impact, Accelerate their manifestations, Create new symptoms, and Uncover suppressed symptoms). There has also been an increase in Moral Injury.

Whereas these are the observations, their true impact is felt across the entire industry. Leadership, workers, and the patients are all suffering with the fear that the worse is yet to come. This brings us to the current discussion.

Decades of research have shown that people in the healthcare industry do not have the necessary tools or skills to combat burnout, its factors, and its effects. Although there are several approaches that have been proposed, the science of Coaching has emerged as a leading candidate to help leaders and workers develop these tools and skills.

It is VSVS’s hope that having the HCA GCD leaders discuss with our panel of coaches  their challenges will provide a unique opportunity to pioneer some of the approaches that can be used to mitigate those challenges and even thrive in this environment. We must add that this Has Never been done before, even though the research, data, and science have called for it repetitively.

While others focus on vaccinating against the virus and treating its biological effects, we can work on vaccinating against the virus and treating its emotional, physical, social, and mental effects on the leaders, on the workers, and on the patients.
